About Dr. Taylor
I’m Dr. Joseph G. Taylor III, D.O. — a Board Certified Emergency Medicine physician with over 20 years of experience, Board Certified by the American College of Obesity Medicine, and a Certified Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Specialist through WorldLink Medical.
But more than my credentials, I want to share my story — because it’s probably not that different from yours.
I’ve been involved in athletics my entire life. Wrestling, jiu-jitsu, staying active — these weren’t just hobbies, they were part of who I was. They required discipline, attention to nutrition, and a commitment to taking care of my body. For years, I lived that way.
Then life happened. A demanding career as an ER physician, a family to care for, a schedule that never seemed to slow down. Slowly, the healthy habits I had built slipped away. And for a while, my body bounced back — because in your 20s and 30s, it can.
But as I approached my 50s, I started to feel the cumulative effects of those years of compromise. High blood pressure. Atrial fibrillation. Weight gain. Arthritis. Sleep apnea. Profound fatigue. Esophagitis. Muscle loss and changes in body composition I hadn’t seen before.
I set out to fix it — and what I discovered changed everything.
Getting back into shape in your 50s isn’t the same as it was at 25. There are hormonal changes at play. Sleep disruptions that affect everything. Medication side effects that quietly steal your energy. Food sensitivities. Metabolic shifts. And yet most physicians respond to these concerns with the same generic advice: “exercise more and eat a healthy diet.”
But what does that even mean today? The food pyramid we grew up with has been completely overhauled — and for good reason. We now understand how it was shaped by industry interests and flawed science. The standard advice often isn’t enough, and in many cases, it’s missing the point entirely.
I’ve spent years digging deeper into these areas — hormones, metabolism, body composition, longevity — and I want to share that knowledge with patients who are ready to do the work.
Peak Performance Institute is not a large, impersonal “wellness” company that prescribes everything to everyone. This is a small, intentional practice built around a genuine relationship between you and your physician. I am available to my patients. I know your story. And I am committed to helping you reach your healthspan goals — not just your lifespan.
Currently, PPI offers telehealth services to patients in North Carolina, with Virginia, New York, Colorado, Michigan, and Maryland coming soon. All visits are conducted virtually, which means no in-person exam — but it does mean convenient, confidential, physician-directed care from wherever you are.
